The snake that slithered into the Virginia Sterilisation Outreach

Because when we say we’re an animal rescue, we mean all animals.

An outreach of this scale never happens by chance.

It demands vision, meticulous planning, and an unwavering commitment to animal welfare.

The logistics.

The timelines.

The coordination.

Every moving part is carefully aligned long before the first animal arrives.

The Virginia four-day outreach in late November began after Thea of the SPCA called us to help, and the ball was set in motion.

But no matter how meticulous the planning, curveballs can come careening in.

This time around, it was a call to catch a puff adder after it had a run in with a wily snake hunter whose plan to ‘catch and kill’ was scotched after the threatened reptile decided to hiss back.

With the wounded wanna-be hunter taken to a nearby hospital, the Woodrock team stepped in to rescue the puffy who, astutely, was “playing dead” after the botched deed.

The case was safely put to bed; the team resumed sterilising 65 animals who had been booked in for the day.

A reminder: We can plan all we want, but rescue work means showing up for whoever needs us.
