When We Couldn’t Say “No”

When two eight-month-old greyhound puppies arrived from one of the nearby communities, our shelter was already full.

We still couldn’t say “no.”

Helping vulnerable animals receive lifesaving care is exactly why outreach is such an important part of what we do. Through our outreach programme, we support people like Tracey Bosman, an animal welfare inspector whose work in Olievenhoutbosch provides vulnerable animals with food, veterinary care, education and sterilisation support.

It was through this network that these two young greyhounds found their way to Woodrock.

Today, they’re being lovingly cared for by our dedicated puppy dad, Limited, who is carefully monitoring their feeding, helping them gain confidence through enrichment, and giving them the love and security every puppy deserves. Once they’re strong enough, they’ll move into our puppy kennels before beginning the search for their forever homes.

Their journey hasn’t been without challenges. Shortly after arriving, both puppies tested positive for canine parvovirus. They remain in quarantine under the close supervision of our medical team and are receiving the specialised treatment they need to recover.

Their story is a reminder that rescue doesn’t begin when an animal arrives at our gates. It begins in the communities where outreach creates hope, builds trust and ensures vulnerable animals have somewhere to turn when they need help most.
